November 27, 2017

To better serve researchers, users, and industry partners, a new process for course enrollment in the Connect online Learning Management System will be implemented. We will:

  • Offer a new course registration process which allows credit card payments.
  • Remove cheques as a payment method.
  • Implement a new self-service online registration software: ePly.
  • Implement a new payment gateway: ePayment Web Service.
  • Consolidate and simplify the course registration and lab registration process.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question Answer
When is the change happening? Changes will appear end of day on December 21, 2017. Users may experience brief interruptions in lab registration as configuration changes are being made during this time.
What users are affected? All current and future animal users requiring training with Animal Care Services. This includes UBC and non-UBC users.
Why is it better?

Credit cards: Users need less administrative work to submit payments. Animal Care Services accepts Mastercard and Visa.

Faster access: Users immediately gain access to course reading materials upon enrolling with their CWL. Users no longer need to wait for us to grant access to course materials.

Waitlists: Users can join a waitlist for labs that have met the maximum enrollment limit.
What action do I need to take? Cheques will no longer be accepted. Current UBC users should speak with their PI or lab manager to discuss the payment options. For all users, credit card payment is preferred. UBC users may also make payments by standing or regular Journal Voucher (JV) transactions.
Why ePly and ePayment? ePly is an approved UBC event registration system for conferences, meetings, and other events. ePayment Web Service provides participating UBC departments with secure, real-time authorization, and processing of credit card payments. ePly and ePayment work closely together to ensure that the training experience within Connect is seamless to users
What is CWL? Campus Wide Login (CWL) is designed to give users access to UBC’s online applications with the same username and password. A CWL account provides users with access to Connect (Blackboard Learn). CWL guest accounts are available for people who have a relationship with UBC, but do not have UBC-issued employee or student ID numbers. For more information, visit the Campus Wide Login page.
How does the new course and lab registration process work?
  1. Log in to Connect. Use CWL username and password.
  2. Learn the self-study course materials. Complete an online quiz to be eligible to register for an available practical lab session. Users may join a waitlist if their preferred lab is not available.
  3. Submit payment. Pay by credit card or JV online to confirm lab registration. The user receives an email with a unique login link and passcode once payment is processed.
  4. Attend the practical lab. Complete a lab quiz at the end of the session.
  5. View certificate. Log in to RISe to view certificate of completion.
What are my payment options?
  • Credit card: Mastercard and Visa are accepted.
  • Standing JV (UBC users only): Provide standing JV number during the online registration process.
  • Regular JV (UBC users only): Upload the JV document during the online registration process. Submit the original document on the lab date.
