Mosaic Vivarium is a web-based platform that is central to ensuring our animal care and research activities are efficient, accurate, and compliant.
How Mosaic Helps Your Research
As part of conducting animal-based research at UBC, you will interact with Mosaic Vivarium, our lab animal management software.
UBC Animal Care Services uses Mosaic to:
- Ensure Regulatory Compliance: To provide a compliant environment, Mosaic is directly integrated with RISe, the UBC protocol management system. This ensures that all animal activities are automatically checked against your approved Animal Care Committee (ACC) protocols.
- Improve Accuracy: The system uses barcoded cage cards to maintain precise, up-to-the-minute records for animal location, status, and census data.
- Streamline Operations: By centralizing requests and record-keeping, Mosaic provides a faster, more transparent process for everything from ordering animals to tracking billing.
As a researcher, your work is directly linked to the Mosaic system in several key ways. Mosaic serves as the official record for most animal-related activities across the life cycle.
- Ordering and Colony Management: Use Mosaic to submit animal orders and to manage your colonies.
- Compliance and Record-Keeping: Each barcoded cage card links to a central digital record for your animals. This system integrates directly with RISe, ensuring all orders and weans automatically comply with the approved limits of your protocol.
- Billing and Service Requests: The census captured in Mosaic is the basis for your per diem charges. The system is also used to request and bill for any special technical services provided by facility staff.
