Resumption of animal user training and transition to UBC’s Workplace Learning Ecosystem (WPL)

June 10, 2020

As we are beginning to adjust to phased resumption of on-campus research, we are actively preparing to resume animal user training.

Training for new animal users includes courses with online modules and a hands-on (classroom) component. The online modules have been accessible for remote learning and will remain available. To encourage physical distancing, Animal Care Services is moving some hands-on course components to a virtual setting (live webinars) as well as implementing safe distancing and protective equipment for in person training. This initiative will continue to meet training requirements while increasing our capacity to deliver educational content for the Animal Care and Use Program.

Another exciting change is the transition of our experimental animal ethics and animal-use training courses to a better, more advanced learning management platform – Workplace Learning Ecosystem. WPL is a new, centralized course catalogue providing access to UBC internal training and development programs.

Moving to WPL offers a number of benefits:

  • An intuitive, easy-to-use interface for viewing & searching courses
  • Similar experiences whether you use a desktop or mobile browser
  • Track and download completed training records

We will be sharing more information about the transition to webinars and WPL later this month via email and on our website. Please email train.acs@ubc.ca with any questions.
