Allergy Prevention & Maintenance

At UBC and within the wider community there are many resources available to help you become more informed about allergy prevention and maintenance:

  • Allergy Development in the Workplace: Please contact the in-house Occupational & Preventive Health (O&PH) program for details. Animal Care Technicians are automatically enrolled in the program due to their exposure to animal species or exposure to infectious biological agents. O&PH offers confidential services to employees in a clinical setting and can help with employees concerned about allergy development in the workplace.
  • Dietician Services: The UBC Extended Health plan covers services from a registered and licensed dietician* at 80% of reasonable and customary charges and the annual maximum is $600 per person combined with the following practitioners: licensed speech therapist, acupuncturist, chiropractor, homeopath, podiatrist, chiropodist, osteopath, naturopath, audiologist or occupational therapist. No doctor's referral is required.
  • Naturopathic Services: The UBC Extended Health plan covers services from a registered and licensed naturopath* at 80% of reasonable and customary charges (100% for Childcare employees) and the annual maximum is $600 per person combined with the following practitioners: licensed speech therapist, acupuncturist, chiropractor, homeopath, podiatrist, chiropodist, osteopath, dietician, audiologist or occupational therapist. No doctor's referral is required.
  • Worklife Services: EFAP provides short-term clinical counselling and work-life consultations to all eligible UBC employees and their dependent family members at no cost to users through the EFAP provider LifeWorks. LifeWorks not only focuses on being a support for those in crisis and in need of short-term counselling, but it also caters to individuals who are seeking more information and for those looking to maintain their wellbeing and resilience across a range of topics, like health, life, money, work, and family.
  • Nutrition Counselling: If you are looking for nutritional support, you can connect with a registered dietician or nutritionist with UBC’s Employee and Family Assistance Program: LifeWorks. It is easy to book your consultation online or by calling 1-866-424-0770.
